Studies Have Shown that CBG :
Is CBG different than CBD?
First of all, in order accurately compare CBG and CBD, it is important to note that it is actually the acid forms (CBGa and CBDa) that are found in the hemp plant. Only upon applying heat after harvest do these cannabinoid acids convert to the non-acid forms of CBG and CBD. For simplicity in this summary, the common terms of CBG and CBD are used.
CBG (cannabigerol), like CBD (cannabidiol), is one of hundreds of different cannabinoid acids found in the hemp plant. As the mother cannabinoid acid, CBG is like the stem cell of the plant from which all other cannabinoids are formed. Typically, nearly all of the plant's CBG converts to other cannabinoids like CBD by the time the plant reaches full maturity. Retaining a high level of CBG is not easy. But, with the right breeding, cultivation, and harvesting, it can be done.
So, how does CBG work in the human body?
Humans have what is called the endocannabinoid system (ECS for short). As a “system” the ECS is different from other systems of the body, such as the nervous, digestive, or endocrine systems. The ECS spreads across the entire body. It’s made up of chemical messengers (cannabinoids) and receptor sites (cannabinoid receptors). This messenger system is involved in connecting all of the body’s organs and systems, keeping everything in balance, including inflammation and the immune system. The ECS affects almost every area of mental and physical well-being in the body and mind, making it a true “mind-body system.”
The ECS is one of the most important physiologic systems involved in establishing and maintaining human health. Endocannabinoids and their receptors are found throughout the body: in the brain, organs, connective tissues, glands, and immune cells. With its complex actions in our immune system, nervous system, and virtually all of the body’s organs, the endocannabinoids are literally a bridge between body and mind. By understanding this system, we begin to see a mechanism that could connect brain activity and states of physical health and disease. Although the body has its own cannabinoids (endocannabinoids), plant-derived cannabinoids (called phytocannabinoids) can interact with this system. Science is only beginning to understand how phytocannabinoids interact with this amazing endocannabinoid system.
